BMW Motorrad’s adventure sports bike, the S 1000 XR, stars alongside Milla Jovovich in “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter,” the action-horror film that pits the hero and her bike against a zombifying virus and the ominous Umbrella Corporation.
The post-apocalyptic landscape of the film provides an excellent backdrop that showcases the
true performance and do-anything capability of the S 1000 XR. The film takes a few small liberties with the bike’s features, such as the gas tank-mounted touch screen and fingerprint reader, but the performance, sound and looks are the same as what you’d find at our dealerships.
While promoting the film, Jovovich “escorted” the bike on the Berlin red carpet. The bike, emblazoned with custom-painted fairings that featured the distinctive red-and-white Umbrella Corporation logo, garnered nearly as much attention as the film’s household-name star. The bike was also a crowd-pleaser at Tokyo Comic Con, where attendees were climbing about the motorcycle, taking pictures and getting a close look.
The BMW S 1000 XR occupies a unique niche among motorcycles. The upright seating position gives it the feel of an adventure bike, but its incredible performance is closer to that of a racer. Not only that, its comfort and features mean riders can take the endurance-testing trips they are accustomed on BMW Motorrad’s world-leading tourers.
Even the bike’s appearance indicates a rider is in for a special treat. Its looks can best be described as a melding of a tourer and a supersport with its sleek and sharp shape and a tall stance. Long spring travel means the rider sits up high for better comfort and visibility. The 160-horsepower four-cylinder BMW engine and 83 lb-ft of torque means the XR is quick off the line and maneuvers through corners the way riders have come to expect from BMW motorcycles.
True to its adventure heritage, the S 1000 XR is also extremely customizable.
