The BMW R 1200 GS is a sight to behold and a pleasure to ride, and it was a pleasure for BMW Motorrad to build. Thanks to a recent collaboration between BMW Motorrad and LEGO, the mega-popular Danish toymaker, you can now build a BMW R 1200 GS of your own – and it’ll even fit on your desk. Though it’s far too small to ride, the LEGO Technic bike features realistically functioning parts from the front-fork suspension to the removable rear storage cases.
It’s what you would expect from the legendary builders at LEGO, but there’s a surprise in store for those lucky enough to own the model – the same pieces used to build the BMW R 1200 GS LEGO Technic can be repurposed to build a hovering concept bike unlike anything ever seen. The LEGO Technic hover bike is an ambitious prediction of the future of motorcycle and it’s something that got BMW Motorrad engineers fired up.
Feeling the spark of inspiration, BMW Motorrad engineers got to work designing their own version of the LEGO Technic hover bike. Dubbed the Hover Ride, the hovering BMW concept looks as though it could be the great-grandchild of today’s BMW R 1200 GS. With its striking wings, aerodynamic fairings and rear propeller, this bike would be right at home hovering above the streets in the far-distant future. The BMW R 1200 GS can go anywhere two wheels can carry you, and the Hover Ride concept lets you imagine going places you can only go with no wheels touching the ground.
The BMW R 1200 GS is a travel-adventure bike that’s comfortable in almost any terrain or climate. With a rigid frame and dynamic suspension, the R 1200 GS provides spectacular rider comfort and control. It’s a 125-horsepower, high-revving workhorse with multiple ride modes that can be chosen to suit whatever demands are put in front of it. The new BMW R 1200 GS uses a revolutionary water- and air-cooled engine to keep the reliable BMW boxer engine operating efficiently and reliably.
